BoxingScene.com has been advised that a bout between Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson will take place on June 11th at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in New York.

Monroe (19-2, 6KOs) was last seen getting stopped by Gennady Golovkin last May at the Forum in Inglewood, California for the WBA middleweight title. While Thompson (17-2, 6KOs) in October was unsuccessful in his bid for the vacant WBO junior middleweight belt versus Liam Smith. Now these former Boxcino Tournament winners meet in a bout that will be televised on Showtime Extreme.

The night's main event on Showtime features former WBO junior welterweight Ruslan Provodnikov's bout against John Molina.

IN OTHER NEWS - Top Nicaraguan prospect Roberto Arriaza (11-0, 10 KOs) makes his U.S. debut one week from Friday against Cameron Kreal (8-9-2, 1 KO) of Las Vegas. It is perhaps the most intriguing fight on the undercard of Thompson Boxing Promotions "New Blood" Anniversary Event. The action takes place Friday, May 20, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

Arriaza, a welterweight boasting substantial punching power in either mitt, has been in the U.S. since April, training feverishly for the 8-round fight against Kreal. He is largely an unknown commodity in the States. He's counting on an impressive showing to endear himself to the influential Southern California audience

Arriaza signed with Thompson Boxing Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions in early January, just prior to him capturing the vacant WBA Fedecentro welterweight title against Aristides Quintero.

In the "New Blood" main event, NABA Champion Danny Roman (18-2-1, 6 KOs) of Los Angeles defends his 122-pound title for the third time against hardened veteran Christian Esquivel (28-9, 21 KOs) of Mexico (10-rounds).

In the 10-round co-feature, former Ukrainian Olympian Taras Shelestyuk (13-0, 8 KOs) defends his unbeaten mark against an opponent to be named later. The 8-round fight will be contested at the welterweight level. Shelestyuk is co-promoted through Thompson Boxing Promotions and Banner Promotions.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bell rings at 7:45 p.m. The Doubletree Hotel is located at 222 N. Vineyard Ave. in Ontario, Calif. and can be reached at 909-937-0900.
