A benefit boxing card featuring a match up between two highly regarded Cleveland cruiserweights, Aaron Williams and Mike Alexander, will be held Friday, Nov. 5, in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

The card, dubbed “Fight for Education” and for the benefit of Cleveland-area high school students, is being held in association with the national non-profit group “Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves.”

The six-bout card is promoted by American Dream Presents of Cleveland in association with Wild Bill’s Boxing of Terre Haute, Ind.; Executive Caterers of Mayfield Heights; and Lavish Marketing of Cleveland. Ron Johnson, a world-ranked light heavyweight, is president of American Dream Presents. Billy Reese is chief executive officer of Wild Bill’s Boxing.

The eight-round main event is Williams, with a record of 20-2-1 and 13 knockouts, against Alexander, with a mark of 12-4 and eight knockouts.

The six-round semi-main event features welterweight Cortez Bey of Cleveland, with a record of 8-1-1 and four knockouts, against Brandon Baue of Troy, Mo., with a mark of 12-4 and 10 knockouts.

Four undefeated boxers are in four-round preliminary bouts. Super lightweight Julius Leegrand of Cleveland, with a record of 4-0 and one knockout, meets Marlon Smith of St. Louis, with a mark of 2-0 and one knockout. Middleweight Wilkins Santiago of Lorain, Ohio, with a record of 2-0 and one knockout, faces an opponent to be determined as does middleweight Mike Moore of Cleveland, with a mark of 4-0 and three knockouts.

A sixth bout features women boxers and includes the pro debut of Jessica Eye of Cleveland.

The card will be held in the Main Hall at Executive Caterers, located at 6111 Landerhaven Dr. in Mayfield Heights.

Tickets, priced at $20 for general admission and $35 for ringside reserved, are available at the door Saturday, Nov. 5, and in advance by visiting americandreampresents.com

The first fight starts at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7.

“The objective of this ‘Fight for Education’ card is to raise awareness of the value of educating the youth of America,” says Johnson, a native of Cleveland and now a resident of Las Vegas, Nev. “There is no finer mission in which I can partake or service I, in small part, can provide than to inspire a youth to expand and sharpen his or her mind though pursuing higher education. To that end, we will be providing two high school seniors funding toward their college tuition.

“I was born and raised in Cleveland, and I want to give back something to this great city,” continues Johnson. “I want to help other youngsters to be able to realize something I am enjoying–their own American Dream.”

“Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves” is a national non-profit organization created to provide an alternative way for youth to spend their spare time and channel their energy. This is accomplished by encouraging them to put down tools of violence and, instead, lace on a pair of boxing gloves and fight in the ring.

This is the second card in behalf of “Fight for Education;” the first was in Evansville Sept. 18.

This also is the sixth card Johnson has promoted in Cleveland since 2007.
