Austin “Ammo” Williams (11-0) took a big step up in class Saturday night when he handed Chordale Booker (17-1) his first career loss.

The 26-year-old issued a power statement to the middleweight division, just like his trainer Kevin Cunningham predicted before the fight. Williams went right to work hurting Booker early which led to him winning via 1st round knockout.

The fight was part of the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano undercard that was streamed live on DAZN at a sold out Madison Square Garden.

“I think Ammo accomplished exactly what he sat out to do. The plan was to go out dominate from the opening bell. I wanted Ammo to start the breakdown process early and eventually stop him in 5 or 6 rounds. In camp we worked on stepping to the left, countering his jab with left hands over the top and rights hands underneath,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.

“When you have southpaw versus southpaw there’s several opportunities that can be taken advantage of if you execute from the proper angle. Ammo hurt Booker with the first left hand he landed. Once he smelled blood he went in for the kill. I think a spectacular performance like this puts everyone on notice. Ammo is a force to be reckoned with and he’s only going to get better.”

With the victory, Williams is now 2-0 in 2022 and has knocked out his last three opponents. The Matchroom USA fighter hopes to remain active and fight at least two more times this year.
