Carolina, Puerto Rico - Considering the importance of looking spectacular in his first fight in the United States, 105-pound World Boxing Organization (WBO) world champion Wilfredo 'Bimbito' Mendez of Trujillo Alto, along with his working team, headed off on Tuesday to the state of Texas for his third defense, which will take shape this Saturday, August 14 at The Star, located at The Ford Center in the city of Frisco.

'Bimbito' (16-1, 6 KOs) will be exposing his WBO world title against Nicaraguan world contender Carlos Buitrago (32-6-1, 18 KOs) in a fight that will be televised on DAZN.

"The work is done and the motivation to make a good impression in my first fight in the United States is also there," said Wilfredo Mendez.

"I am only two pounds off the weight and I feel that I will be at my best on August 14. I trust the preparation I had in Caimito with Yoel González and Freddy Trinidad. At the end of the night, I expect a great fight between Puerto Rico and Nicaragua.

"I am going to dedicate this fight to Jasmine Camacho-Quinn because she represented us with great love and pride in the Olympics and she did so regardless of the opportunities she lost from sponsors for not representing the United States and going with Puerto Rico. Her humility and simplicity is incredible and serves as an example for future generations."

The undercard will be televised live on DAZN, starting at 9pm (ET), will feature a main event with welterweight banger Vergil Ortiz Jr. defending his WBO International title against Olympian Egidijus Kavaliauskas.
