Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico's only current male world champion, Wilfredo 'Bimbito' Mendez of Trujillo Alto, will be making his third defense on Saturday, August 14 at The Ford Center in The Star, located in the city of Frisco, Texas.

'Bimbito' (16-1, 6 KOs) will be staking his 105-pound world title of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) against the Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago (32-6-1, 18 KOs).

The undercard will be televised live on DAZN, starting at 9pm ET, will feature a welterweight main event with Vergil Ortiz defending his WBO International title against Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

"Buitrago is coming in after taking part in tremendous fights against McWilliams Arroyo at 112 pounds and world champion Elwin Soto at 108 pounds. Now he's heading in with more strength at 105 pounds, which is his weight, to face me and those are the challenges we want. We want motivated opponents so the fans come away satisfied," said Mendez.

"This will be my first fight in the United States and on DAZN. A lot of people who have never seen me fight will be able to see me and that is very motivating for me. I feel that I'm in my best condition right now to return back home to Puerto Rico with the title.

"I want to dedicate this fight to Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, because her sacrifice gave incredible results in the Olympics with the gold medal she won for Puerto Rico. She united us as a people. She is a champion and that is something that has to happen more often to motivate the future generations. I thank her so much and we know that she will continue to achieve greater achievements for her people."
