Dillian Whyte, who holds the WBC's interim-heavyweight title, is open to the scenario of switching over to the UFC for a showdown with the organization's heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.

Whyte has a background in kickboxing and MMA - and he's expressed interest in returning to the cage at some point.

A few years ago, Whyte and Ngannou exchanged words through the media.

Whyte's promoter, Eddie Hearn, tried to hype up a potential fight between the two - but the UFC quickly shut that idea down.

In a recent interview, Hearn made it clear that he's still very interested in making a fight between Whyte and Ngannou.

He'd like to put together a two fight series - with one contest taking place in the UFC and one in the boxing ring.

“I love Francis Ngannou. We almost had a presser with Dillian Whyte and him, but the UFC shut that down after we taped it. We do have the footage, though. I would love to see a double match-up with Ngannou and Dillian Whyte. One in the cage and one out of it," Hearn said to AK and Barak on SiriusXM.

If the right offer was on the table, Whyte would embrace the possibility of facing Ngannou in the cage.

“Imagine me going and winning the UFC heavyweight championship. I’d be the first boxer to ever do that and, with the stage of my career that I am, I can do that. As the interim heavyweight champion, going and winning the UFC undisputed heavyweight championship, I am definitely up for that," Whyte said to Talk Sport.

Whyte was in action last month, when he stopped Alexander Povetkin in the fourth round of their rematch. The victory allowed Whyte to avenge a knockout loss to Povetkin from August of 2020.
