World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman reacted to the recent statements that were made by four division world champion Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez.

A few days ago, Gonzalez made it clear that he has not agreed to a deal or signed any documents related to a direct rematch against Mexico's Carlos Cuadras, whom he defeated in September at the Inglewood Forum in Los Angeles, California. As part of that win, Gonzalez captured the WBC super flyweight world title.

Speaking Mas Deportes on Canal 23 in Nicaragua, Chocolatito denied an alleged confrontation with Cuadras, which is reportedly going to be held on March 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York - as the co-feature to the middleweight main event between Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs.

At the recent World Boxing Council convention in Florida, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that Chocolatito was facing Cuadras in March.

Gonzalez believes Sulaiman is behind the scenes pushing for that fight to happen, and may try to strip him if the contest doesn't happen.

"Mauricio Sulaimán said at the Miami Convention that was the fight [I would be involved in] because that's what he wants. They could remove the title from me if I don't accept, but it does not matter because I can not fight in the manner that's being required... for a purse that's less than what we deserve," said Chocolatito.

"If God wants [the fight to happen] and they pay me well as I've asked for a good purse - then we'll fight. We really can not accept a rematch if they are going to pay me little. It would be better to fight in Japan for a smaller purse than in the United States - where you get hit with a lot of taxes and a very low purse is left at the end of everything."

"The HBO people are offering me very low money, so I can not accept that fight. I've been struggling to get a good purse, because we are the world's number one pound for pound. I'm thinking about the future of my children, my family. I'm a four division world champion, but they're paying me small purses. We are ready to do whatever it takes. If they remove the title we'll go to another organization. We have proven that we deserve a good amount of money, which we deserve to make a fight with Cuadras. That fight is not signed. Cuadras said yes, but he is the type of fighter that if they give him 50 thousand dollars he'll grab it - but I won't."

Sulaiman explained that his organization is not trying to push the rematch on Gonzalez in any way.

"This is the situation. Chocolatito is in a mandatory period right now, but because of the importance of the fight he had against Cuadras, and the fact that both of them called for rematch... and especially [Gonzalez] in his capacity as champion, it t was understood by everyone that both of them wanted the fight. After the fact that Cuadras gave him the opportunity and the first fight was tough and controversial - we gave our authorization for them to have the rematch while putting aside [Gonzalez's mandatory] challenger Srisaket Sor Rungvisai," said Sulaimán to ESPN Deportes.

"If he does not want the rematch, then the governing board will take care of the situation because the mandatory challenger is Rungvisai, but let him say so. That's the right way. What he shouldn't do is embarrass the [WBC] or even his promoter because they do not want to give him what he thinks he deserves."
