Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council, is very happy that a deal was finalized for the anticipated rematch between WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez.

The fight is going to take place on the Cinco De Mayo date of May 5.

"It's a fight that we all expected to have a second chapter and it's good that it was finalized for this date," Sulaiman said. "May the best fighter win in the ring. The first fight was very close and this rivalry need to be settled where it should be - inside the ropes. It should be a great show, as it was the first time."

Sulaiman is referencing the controversy of the first contest, which ended last September in with a twelve round split draw at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. And the card of 118-110 in favor of Canelo was highly criticized.

"It was an excessive card, it did not reflect how close the fight was and we really hope that the judges are correct this time, because these types of actions cause unnecessary controversy," Sulaiman said.

Sulaiman hopes the rematch is not finalized again for Las Vegas. He would rather have it take place elsewhere.

"It would be great if the fight gets out of Las Vegas, and goes to the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. This would make the true boxing fans go to witness the fight. It would be a historical and spectacular event. When the fights are in Las Vegas, there are a lot of people [at the events] who are not supporters of boxing, which is why I think it's good to get it out of Nevada," Sulaiman said.

And he also hopes to avoid problems with Canelo this time - who rejected the idea of fighting for the WBC title in the first fight. Canelo feels the WBC has been siding up to Golovkin for the last few years.

"I hope everything is left behind and nothing more is said. Canelo has always received affection and support from the Council. He knows the doors are open and hopefully this time it will be different. We will not enter into controversy," Sulaiman said.
