The World Boxing Council has explained how #12 ranked Pablo Cesar Cano was approved to fight Erik Morales this coming Saturday for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title, taking place on the Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz pay-per-view at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. WBC President called it "an extreme emergency" as Morales' scheduled opponent Lucas Matthysse withdrew last week with an illness.

The WBC explained how they went down the rankings.

The #1 ranked boxer, Ajose Olusegun, is scheduled to fight #6 ranked Ali Chebah on September 30 in California in a final eliminator.

The number #2 ranked is Erik Morales.

Humberto Soto, ranked at #3, suffered a cut in his most recent fight which place less than two weeks ago.

Number #4 Kendall Holt is scheduled to fight #8 Danny Garcia in California on October 15.

The number #5 ranked contender is Lucas Matthysse.

The number #7 is Prawet Singwangcha of Thailand. Singwangcha doesn't have a visa to travel to the United States.

The number #9 ranked contender, Josesito Lopez, faces Jessie Vargas on the Mayweather-Ortiz card on September 17.

Roberto Ortiz, ranked at #10, defends his WBC silver title on October 1.

The number #11 ranked contender, Kamegai Yoshihiro, is scheduled to fight in Japan.

Cano of Mexico was willing to move from a fight scheduled for the 17th in Los Angeles, headlined by Saul Alvarez-Alfonso Gomez, to face Erik Morales for the title in Las Vegas. Both cards are promoted by Golden Boy, so there were very few complications with the switch.
