Frank Warren realizes Tommy Fury is in a unique position to shape the sort of career he wants in boxing.

Fresh off what some might call a mild upset over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in their highly publicized eight-round cruiserweight bout last weekend in Saudi Arabia, the previously unrecognized member of the Fury fighting clan now finds himself with the sort of prestige and financial success that rarely comes to fighters with only nine fights to their name.

The question is does Fury want to keep fighting e-celebrities for handsome paydays? Or does he want to try his hand at actually going through the rigors of the sport in the hopes of a world title shot someday?

Warren, who promotes the 23-year-old Fury, believes his client will have to make a hard decision in the near future about what kind of boxing career he sees for himself. Warren, who also promotes Fury’s older brother, the WBC heavyweight titlist Tyson Fury, said he would not begrudge Fury for choosing the more lucrative path.

“It’s not a foregone conclusion, like everybody seems to think, that this is the future of boxing,” Warren said of celebrity boxing matches in an interview with Boxing Social. “The future of boxing are good fights, competitive fights, big fights. That’s the way forward. And Tommy now, who’s the victor, he’s got to make a decision on what he wants to do and I’m sure he’ll go where the money is because that’s what I would do if I was with him.

“Those fights can absolutely ensure that his financial future is secure, and then maybe he’ll step back and say right, you know what now, I want to get back to what I set out to be, which is to win a British, European, and world title. But you can’t blame him, and I would do it if I was in his position, to go where he can achieve and get the most money at the moment. …At the end of the day it’s about how much money you can earn.”

Paul, 26, is reported to have the ability to trigger a rematch and has already expressed interest in one. Fury told Good Morning Britain that he “definitely” wants the rematch and believes he will even be able to stop Paul inside the distance the next time around.
