WASHINGTON – Vito Mielnicki Jr. isn’t in a rush.

Fifteen fights into his professional career, the junior middleweight won’t turn 21 for four months. Time is on his side, thus the ambitious prospect wants to take a patient approach to 2023.

“I just wanna keep growing, keep getting better,” Mielnicki told BoxingScene.com. “I wanna get four or five fights in. I’m 13-1 now, hopefully 17-1 or 18-1 by the end of the year.”

Mielnicki (13-1, 8 KOs), of Roseland, New Jersey, is scheduled to face Houston’s Omar Rosales (9-1-1, 5 KOs) on the Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia undercard Saturday night. Their 10-rounder will be the third of three fights Showtime will stream on its YouTube channel prior to the start of the network’s four-fight pay-per-view telecast from Capital One Arena.

Showtime’s YouTube coverage is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. ET. The pay-per-view telecast, which will feature Baltimore’s Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) and the Dominican Republic’s Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs, 1 NC) in the 12-round, 135-pound main event, will begin at 9 p.m. ET.

Mielnicki intends to display progress in his fourth fight with trainer Raul “Chino” Rivas in his corner.

“In my eyes, I’ll be ready for a world title shot in two years, but we’re not rushing,” Mielnicki said. “Once we see in the gym and in my fights the progression, we’ll take that next step.”

Mielnicki comfortably beat Limberth Ponce (19-6, 11 KOs) by unanimous decision in his last fight, a 10-rounder October 15 on the Deontay Wilder-Robert Helenius undercard at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Rosales last fought June 17, when he boxed San Antonio’s Bryan Springs (3-5-2, 1 KO) to a six-round split draw in Houston. The 32-year-old Rosales lost his previous bout by fifth-round knockout to Colombia’s Arley Carabali (8-8-2, 1 KO) on March 5 in San Luis, Colombia.

“I know he’s gonna bring a great fight,” Mielnicki said. “I’m expecting a Mexican style, but I just need to do what I do best. Getting a knockout here would be special, but what’s most important is coming out with a dominant victory.”

The YouTube portion of Showtime’s coverage also will feature junior welterweight contender Brandun Lee (26-0, 22 KOs), of La Quinta, California, in an eight-round bout against Argentina’s Diego Luque (21-10-2, 10 KOs). Travon Marshall (6-0, 5 KOs), a welterweight prospect from nearby Capitol Heights, Maryland, will encounter Shawn West (7-2-1, 4 KOs), of Davenport, Iowa, in the six-round opener on Showtime’s YouTube channel.
