Vicente Mosquera dominatedlate sub Cosme Rivera en route to a 7th round stoppage in their Telemundo-televised main event Friday evening in Kissimmmee, Florida.

Rivera was brought in under emergency circumstances on less than 24-hours notice as a replacement for Joan Guzman, who missed weight by more than eight pounds. Guzman's removal from the show resulted in the originally scheduled 140 lb. interim title fight downgraded to a catchweight affair.

Mosquera began a bit slow, solving Rivera's style after spending weeks preparing for the more fluid boxing style Guzman would have presented. Once the former super featherweight champ settled into a groove, it was all over for Rivera.

Both fighters had their moments in spots, but Rivera's effectiveness decreased following a strong second round. Mosquera took over the fight and broke down the lanky Mexican until forcing to quit on his stool after seven rounds.

The official time was 3:00 of round seven.

Mosquera has now won nine straight as he improves to 33-2-1 (18KO). His last loss came seven years ago to the late Edwin Valero, ending his super featherweight title reign. The traveling Panamanian was hoping to add a second belt (even if only an interim version) to his collection, but Guzman's scale fail ended that dream, as Friday's bout was downgraded to a 10-round non-title affair.

Rivera falls 35-17-3 (24KO), having now lost three straight.
