In what more was like Wrestlemainia than a fight , Hector Velázquez (45-11-2, 32 KOs) scored a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Yuri Voronin (13-6-1, 8 KOs) on Friday night at the Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque, NM.

Voronin would do nothing, but disappoint the crowd with his move, dance and hold tactics, while Velasquez would complain to referee Rocky Burke about Voronin not fighting and him holding.

Velasquez to his credit did try to make a fight out of it, trying to go to the body then head, but as soon as he was able to get close Voronin would grab and hold until Burke would break the two.

SANCHEZ KO’S OVERMATCHED OPPONENT

Albuquerque Welterweight Ray Sanchez had an easy time with over-matched Robbie Lee Adamson; Sanchez put Adamson down with the first punch he landed in round one, from there Sanchez dropped Adamson again. Both times it was Sanchez left hand that put Adamson to the canvas. Adamson didn’t have power in his arsenal to keep Sanchez off him, but he was able to finish the round.

In round two, Adamson was able to put some punches together but Sanchez walked right through him. Sanchez was able to land a few good left hooks to the body and as the round was about to end Sanchez landed one more right hand to the head of Adamson that sent him down for the cont as referee Russ Mora halted the action at 3:00 of round two.

Sanchez raises his record to 18-1 (14ko’s), while Adamson falls to 8-2-1 depending on who you believe, as fight fax has it or as he was advertised at 8-0, albeit five of his wins coming against fighters making their pro debut.

GARCIA DEMOLISHES ST.PIERRE IN: 36

Vicente Garcia had an easy night as he halted Cabien St. Pierre at the: 40 of round one. Putting St. Pierre down with an uppercut, St. Pierre got up but wobbled where the referee halted the action at: 36 of round one. Garcia raises his record to 13-5 (10ko’s), while St. Pierre falls to 8-19.

After the fight Garcia and Ray Sanchez exchanged words, but nothing negative was said toward each other. Garcia did tell NewMexicoSportsNews.com/BoxingScene.com that it wasn’t nothing big, “I just want everyone to know that I have nothing bad to about Ray or the Sanchez family, but if I was asked if I would fight Ray, I would take the fight, I think it would be a good fight for New Mexico. But I want to make it clear it’s nothing personal.”

”NO DOUBT” TROUT KEEPS ROLLING

Las Cruces, New Mexico’s Austin “No Doubt” Trout returned to the ring after a brief stint away from health and legal problems. Trout one the former USA National Champion put Jerry Perez down twice in route to a third round stoppage. Trout looked good in getting in some rounds while taking on an experienced opponent.

In winning Trout is now 5-0, while Perez falls to 10-14-3.

ESQUIBEL MAKES SHORT WORK OF DOMINGUEZ

Nineteen year old Albuquerque featherweight hopeful Matthew Esquibel continued his progression as a pro halting over-matched Esli Dominguez. Esquibel put Dominguez down twice in halting the little talented Dominguez at 1:50 of round one. Esquibel one of New Mexico’s top prospects raises his record to 4-0, while beating his second easy opponent in a row from Espanola, New Mexico. Recently the northern town seems to be the New Mexico version of the Mexican meat wagon, with fighters showing up to take paydays with no experience. Its something the New Mexico Athletic commission should take a look at.

ALDERETE WINS, SANCHEZ FALLS

Mike Alderete remained unbeaten with a third round stoppage of Adam Connely. In winning his second bout since returning to the ring after a two year layoff, Alderete raises his record to 4-0, while Connelly falls to 1-3.

In a battle of brawlers Calvin Hollins dropped Ruben Sanchez three times in route to a first round stoppage, Hollins came out swinging wildly, landing a left hook that put Sanchez down to one knee, Sanchez beat the count with Hollins coming in swinging wild again once again putting Sanchez down to a knee, but as referee Rocky Burke tried to separate the two to give Sanchez a standing eight count, Hollins hit Sanchez on the back of the head, Burke gave Sanchez time to recover and then took two points away from Hollins, which in most cases a one point deduction is warranted.

Hillins then went in for the kill, pinning Sanchez in the corner and landed five straight right hands to the head of Sanchez who slumped to the ropes and out to the ring apron. Burke from there seemed lost as he counted Sanchez out but then looked to the commission to see what to do, then waiving the fight off.

Hollins who was allowed to fight despite a 9 ½ pound disadvantage wins for the first time, bringing his record to 1-1, while Sanchez, cousin to Ray Sanchez, falls in his pro debut.
