Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and Juan Manuel Lopez will square off tonight at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Except for those who support this farce of a fight, many boxing fans ask themselves why this fight is happening.

What good could come out of a fight where two fighters are way past their prime and could get seriously hurt?

Thank goodness this fight will not reach many platforms as it will air on pay-per-view broadcast.

The last time Lopez fought was over two years ago. In that fight, Lopez was destroyed in less than two rounds at the hands of Jesus Cuellar in Las Vegas.

He has lost three of his last four bouts. In each of those three losses, Lopez was dropped and lost by knockout.

Sandwiched amongst those three losses was a knockout win for Lopez over Daniel Ponce De Leon, which some people may make an argument for Lopez fighting. But in that fight, Lopez was dropped in the opening round and was on his way to being knockout out had it not been for a hail-mary punch that landed on Ponce De Leon's chin, stopping the hard-hitting Mexican.

Vazquez (24-6-1, 19 KOs) has not faired any better.

He has lost four of his last six bouts. In his last bout on December 5, Vazquez lost by split decision to Rafael Rivera of Mexico.

People may make the argument that three of Vazquez's last four losses were either by majority or split decision. If he were an elite fighter, Vazquez should have pulled out a victory in each fight.

Losing a clear decision to Fernando Vargas in June of last year is unacceptable.

Both fighters were at their best at 122 and 126 pounds, which seemed like a lifetime ago.

The fighter I am worried about tonight is Lopez. He should not be fighting and anyone who convinced him he is good to lace up the gloves at least one more time is not looking out for Lopez's health.

Don't believe me? Go to 'You tube' and looks at Lopez's three fights. Then you can attempt and convince those who think this fight is a farce why it should take place.

Should Carlos Maldonado have some blame in this fight? He is the promoter and if Lopez gets seriously hurt tonight, the finger will likely be pointed towards him and anyone else who allowed Lopez to fight tonight.

Boxing is an awesome sport and it is fun to cover. But Lopez-Vazquez or Vazquez-Lopez is what gives the sport a black eye at times.

Boxing can be better with less fights like this. A lot better.
