Francisco “Bandido” Vargas  is determined to become the first Mexican to defeat formibable  Japanese champion Takashi Miura, who holds the WBC super featherweight world title.

Miura defends his 130-pound belt on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, as prominent part of the undercard to the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez extravagamza.

“I am motivated because of the streak that Miura has built against other Mexican fighters. He's defeated several of my compatriots, but I am sure that I can defeat him," Vargas (22-0-1, 16 KOs) commented.

After dethroning Gamaliel “Platano” Diaz, on April 8th in 2013, Miura put his title on the line against Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson, Dante Jardon and Edgar Puerta. He also defeated former world champion Billy Dib of Australia.

Numbers don't bother Vargas, who claims that speed will be an aspect, balanced in his favor, stating he feels a lot of opportunities to become the new WBC super featherweight champion.

“He's fought a lot of Mexicans, but not with anyone like me.  I am fast, I know how to work at a distance as well as toe to toe. And this will be the major difference between us. We are working hard on our speed and punching power!”
