WBC super featherweight world champion Francisco "Bandido" Vargas (23-0-2, 17KOs) is open to the idea of having a rematch with Orlando "Siri" Salido, but feels that it's better saved for 2017 when both of them are given proper time to recover from the grueling fight.

Vargas suffered bad cuts above both eyes in their June 4th contest, which saw them break CompuBox records with their twelve round battle of punches. The leading contender for Fight of The Year was fought in toe to toe fashion and ended in a twelve round draw at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

"The fight was very hard, I think it was very even. Salido is a very experienced fighter and he is also a bit dirty, but we prepared an fought for twelve rounds. It was a very intense battle from start to finish. It was a very exciting fight where I won it for some, and for others he did. So I think the decision was right," Vargas said.

Vargas wants to fight at the end of the year, but after two all-out wars with Salido and Takashi Miura, he is not looking to follow that up with yet another twelve round war.

"I'm coming off two very tough fights and need time to recover. The rematch is there [with Salido], but it might not happen until next year. I think that's good because the fighters [get time to recover]," Vargas said.

"He came with everything and I responded. I was fighting toe to toe with him in every round. I knew I was doing well. I think I hurt him two or three times, but I just could not finish him. He came very well prepared and so was I. He threw a lot of punches at me and it was a fight that people really liked."

Another option for Vargas is a unification with newly crowned WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (6-1, 4KOs), who last week knocked out Roman Martinez in brutal fashion to capture the title.

"There is that possibility [of a fight with Lomachenko] and a rematch with Salido. At 130-pounds there are very good fighters, but we still do not know what we will do. Right now we will rest and we will then move forward and see who will be next. "
