Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas, Nevada - BoxingScene.com caught up with an elated Ralph Heredia, manager of Francisco "El Bandido" Vargas (23-0-1), shortly after his fighter won what may be the 2015 Fight of the Year against Takashi Miura (29-3-2).

Vargas started off strong and nearly dropped Miura in the first round.  After controlling the first few rounds, Vargas was stunned by Miura and dropped in the fourth round. Miura, who is known as the "Mexicutioner" because of his success against Mexican fighters, had control of the fight and appeared to be on his way to a stoppage victory when Vargas caught his second wind and floored Miura in the 9th round.  Miura rose to his feet but was finished off moments later.

Heredia laguhed when we asked him if the Mexicutioner nickname still applied to Miura.

"Not anymore.  Now Vargas is the Japanese killer," Heredia quipped.  "Let me tell you something, Miura lacked respect for Vargas. When they gave the commission's instruction, Miura said that he wanted to know how Vargas was going to pack his (regional) titles for him to take back to Japan.  Francisco said that Miura had never faced a Mexican like him. Francisco isn't a big talker but that motivated him more."

Vargas' manager said that he was very surprised that Miura was so disrespectful and that they hadn't had that type of experience before with fighters from Japan.  Because of that lack of respect, Heredia said that Miura will have to earn a shot at a rematch and won't just be given one just because it was a great fight.

"That surprised us.  From the experiences we have had before, the Japanese have been very respectful but Miura was very rude.  How is he going to ask how we are going to pack up Vargas belts for him? He was the world champion and he was worried about Vargas (lesser) belts? There won't be an immediate rematch.  If he wants a rematch then he can win a mandatory to earn his shot," Heredia told BoxingScene.com.
