Former heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev could see the possibility of unified champion Wladimir Klitschko dumping the WBA championship over the ongoing dispute with Alexander Povetkin and his promoter, Sauerland Event. Povetkin, the WBA's "regular champion" at heavyweight is the mandatory challenger to Wladimir, who holds the WBA's "super title."

The two sides have been fighting over the WBA's order to stage a purse bid in the coming weeks and there is also a dispute over the WBA's ordered monetary split in the planned purse bid, which gives Wladimir 75% of the winning bid. Valuev does not believe a solution will be found.

"The problem is that the parties can not agree on the terms to organize this fight. Wladimir does not like the fact that in the matter of a mandatory defense, it is the WBA that dictates the terms and not him. The Klitschko brothers are used to dictating all of the terms themselves. I doubt that a compromise will be found in this situation. Rather, I could see Klitschko refuse [to defend] this belt, and then Alexander will fight someone else [for the vacant title]. This might be a possibility," Valuev said.
