There were two major boxing cards in Ukraine this weekend, and not all of the results got into the previous two reports by this trio of reporters.

There were two extra fights with familiar names on the undercard of Maxim Bursak versus Laatekwei Hammond mismatch.

Former WBA welterweight champion Yuri Nuzhnenko came back to the ring for the first time since his July 2010 spirited defeat to Matthew Hatton in England. The 35-year old Ukrainian won every round to get a unanimous nod against Uzbek trialhorse Adham Nazarov (4-5, 2 KOs). Nuzhnenko was his usual self, landing sharp combinations and offering the Uzbek a steady diet of jabs all the way through. Nuzhnenko is now 31-2-1, with 14 KOs.

Also, undefeated Russia-based Tajik Sahib Usarov (17-0, 6 KOs) delivered a bad beating to Ukrainian veteran Yuri Voronin (21-13-2, 16 KOs) for six one-sided rounds. Voronin was floored in the fourth but managed to make it to the final bell. Usarov is ranked #11 by the WBO at the bantamweight limit.

K2 promoted this show in the Kiev Palace of Sports on Saturday.

A day later, Elite Boxing Promotions, one of K2’s major domestic rivals, loaded up its own card at Yunost Sports Arena in Zaporizhye, Ukraine. In the main event, Avtandil Khurtsidze barely got past tough-as-nails Ghanaian Ossie Duran but there were some interesting moments in a short undercard as well.

Undefeated light welterweight Victor Postol (16-0, 8 KOs) proved his mettle against rugged Russian Karen Tevosyan (19-4-3, 10 KOs). Technically brilliant Postol, working on his way out, delivered a masterful lesson of boxing to an aggressive but limited slugger from Russia. Tevosyan lost all of the first eight rounds but was very active in the ninth. However, in the tenth, Tevosyan ate several hard right hands and found himself on the floor. He tried hard at the end of the fight as well but Postol was simply better in every department, getting a wide nod on the scorecards: 120-107 (twice) and 119-108. He also earned a vacant WBC International Silver title at 140 lbs.

Cruiserweight Dmytro Kucher (14-0, 10 KOs) outboxed and outfought game and durable Belgian veteran Ismail Abdoul (42-23-2, 22 KOs) over eight. Scores were: 80-72 (twice) and 79-73. Also Marat Kulumbegov (4-0, 3 KOs) landed a hard shot on fan-friendly Bohdan Protsyshin (6-4, 1 KO) during the first. Protsyshin injured his leg during the fall and, despite beating the count, the fight was stopped after it became clear that his injury was too much for him to continue.
