WASHINGTON – Travon Marshall barely got going before he stopped Shawn West in front of his hometown fans Saturday night.

The 22-year-old welterweight prospect needed only 48 seconds to beat West by technical knockout on the Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia undercard at Captial One Arena. West complained when referee David Braslow stopped the action while he was still standing, but Braslow didn’t like the way West reacted to punches that Marshall landed while he was backed against the ropes.

Marshall, of nearby Capitol Heights, Maryland, improved to 7-0 and produced his sixth knockout. West (7-3-1, 4 KOs) lost by knockout for the second time in his four-year professional career.

An assertive Marshall knocked West off balance with a left hook less than 30 seconds into their fight. West couldn’t contend with Marshall’s hand speed and flurry thereafter, which caused Braslow to step between them.
