Trainer Dominic Ingle was confident his charge Billy Joe Saunders would do the business in Canada.

On Saturday night, the Champion travelled to Montreal to take on powerful puncher David Lemieux. Plenty of pundits, especially in America, believed the risk would not pay off for Saunders.

However the silky southpaw dominated Lemieux on the scorecards and executed the game plan perfectly.

"He tormented the life out of David Lemieux. There were times when he even switched orthodox," Ingle told iFL TV after the fight.

"I said: 'If you do everything right, this kid will not land a shot. It'll be like the bull and the matador, but you won't be doing the execution bit at the end'."

Lemieux's nose was bloodied in the seventh round and seemed to run out of ideas halfway through the contest.

"Billy probably could've finished him, but he's got so much confidence that he chose to box his way through and make it look completely easy. If you can't hit somebody, you can't hurt them and it frustrates the life out of you," he added.

Saunders teamed up with the Sheffield-based trainer in the summer and the move has paid dividends. September's win over Willie Monroe Jr helped to dust off the cobwebs and ensure he was ready for a big test in December.

"He deserves a break," admitted Ingle. "He only took one week off and sometimes that makes people mentally stale. He's got a couple of weeks off. I want him back in the gym at the end of January!"
