Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (24-1) picked picked up the biggest win of his career last Saturday night when he stopped former unified super welterweight champion Jeison “Banana” Rosario (20-3-1) in 6 rounds in Atlanta, Georgia.

The fight served as the co-feature bout underneath the Gervonta Davis-Mario Barrios main event. The pay-per-view broadcast was distributed by Showtime.

The 25-year-old southpaw started off strong and was very effective with his jab. He nearly closed the show at the end of the third round. He was buzzed early in the round but came back to land a huge right hand that sent Rosario wobbling back to his corner after the bell rang to end the round.

Rosario would recover but it was short lived. The Dominican hit the canvas twice in the sixth round and the fight was stopped at the 1:42 mark.

Lubin’s trainer was very impressed by his fighter’s performance and believes he deserves the biggest fight possible in his next fight.

“I think Hammer made a huge statement last [Saturday]. He’s cut from the throwback fighter’s cloth. Most guys that are sitting in the #1 mandatory spot would look for a soft touch until they get the title shot. Hammer’s only interested in fighting the best in the division. So while he’s waiting for his shot, he’s willing to fight the other top names in the division,” Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.

Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano meet on July 17th in a Showtime main event that will take place in San Antonio, Texas. All 4 of the major super welterweight titles will be on the line. Cunningham feels that Lubin deserves a shot at the winner.

“Rosario was the only one out of the top guys in the division that stepped up to the plate and took the fight. Hammer had no problem with taking on the biggest puncher in the division. After knocking out Rosario in spectacular fashion, Hammer’s the only fighter in the division that deserves a shot at the winner of Charlo-Castaño. There’s no one else in the junior Middleweight division that’s more deserving to get Charlo-Castano winner than Erickson Lubin,” Cunningham said.
