Max Ornelas (10-0-1) will face Juan Antonio "Tony" Lopez (12-3) in a main event scheduled for 8 rounds on Friday night at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised by beIN Sports and headline an 8 fight card being promoted by Roy Jones Jr Boxing Promotions.
The 24-year-old Lopez has a history of taking fights on short notice but this time he was able to put together a full camp and is very confident heading to fight night.
"Camp has been great man. It has been a long time since I have felt the way I feel right now. I feel strong and I am on weight," explained Lopez.
The bantamweight contender isn't worried about facing Ornelas in his backyard. Lopez has beaten undefeated fighters before, taking Jerren Cochran and Isaac Torres' "0's" in the past and is no stranger to going on the road.
"This is not the first time I have done it. This might be the fourth or fifth time I have done this. I am experienced at doing this. I like doing it and being on his home court. It is only us two in the ring. I am focused on this fight," Lopez told BoxingScene.com.
A win over an unbeaten fighter on national television would be a big help to jump starting Lopez's career. He has stagnated in recent years, having lost 3 of his past 5 fights but a great performance on Saturday night should position him for a big fight in the not do distant future.
"This is going to put me right back in the mix for a title. I would be a top contender. I think I have earned this spot and again beating this kid will once again earn me a spot to be a topic of conversation for the title," said Lopez.
