Paul Economides has had next month’s fight date swapped.

The Connahs Quay super bantamweight, 29, has been out of the ring since last October and is now preparing to lace up the gloves again.

Economides, who is originally from Chester, is now having his career guided by Dave Coldwell and was set to face an opponent to be named over six rounds at the Manchester Arena on May 7 as part of the undercard to Anthony Crolla’s bid to retain the WBA lightweight crown against Venezuela’s Ismael Barroso.

But ‘Spartan’ will have to wait a little longer to add to his record of 18-5 (4 KOs) after being removed from the bill.

He will instead box on the undercard of Tony Bellew’s vacant WBC cruiserweight title clash against Ilunga Makabu (19-1, 18 KOs) on May 29, which is Bank Holiday Sunday, at Everton Football Club’s Goodison Park stadium.

Confirming the news on social media, Economides wrote on his personal Facebook page: “Okay people, I have some big news. I'm no longer on the Anthony Crolla bill in Manchester.

“I'm now boxing on [the] Tony Bellew undercard at Goodison Park on May 29.

“This show is the biggest that Liverpool has seen. [To say I’m] excited is a understatement."

The show, which Bellew (26-2-1, 16 KOs) told Boxing Scene would be a celebration of Scouse boxing, is also set to feature former two-time British title challenger Sean Dodd (10-2-1, 2 KOs) in a title fight.

Boxing Scene understands that the undercard will also include a clash for the vacant Central Area lightweight title between geographical rivals Kofi Yates (13-1, 1 KO) and Liverpool’s Tom Farrell (8-0, 2 KOs), who are from Wythenshawe and Liverpool respectively.

Details regarding the rest of the undercard and tickets, which are set to be available from next week, will be revealed in due course.
