Narita, Japan - Former World Champion Tomas Rojas is already in Japan, where on Monday September 20 he will compete for the vacant super flyweight championship of the World Boxing Council against local boxer Kohei Kono in a bout agreed to for twelve rounds at the Super Arena in Saitama City, Japan.

Rojas, 30, with a record of (33-12-1, 23KOs) and promoted by Zanfer, was accompanied by his brother, his manager and coach, with whom he left Vera Cruz on Saturday. Kono, 29 years old, has a record of 25-4, 9 KOs.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to fight for the championship of the world and more so to do in Japan, where there is a great passion for boxing. I am in excellent physical shape and want to regain the belt. I want to be champion and I want to be one for a long time," he said upon arrival from Mexico to Japanese soil.

Rojas will try to continue the good run that Aztecs boxers have had in Japan since the Sinaloa Fernando 'Kochulito' Montiel dethroned Hozumi Hasegawa, which preceded the triumph of Hugo Cazares over Nobuo Nashiro and this week Anabel Ortiz defeated Nanako Kikuchi.
