Tom Farrell looks set to rematch Sean Dodd next after recovering from away day disappointment.

The former WBA International super-lightweight champion had been set to travel to Switzerland on Saturday to face a once-defeated prospect. That fight, however, was canned and ‘Fazza’ was added to his promoter Steve Wood’s last offering in the North West.

Farrell took on and outpointed Spanish-based Mexican Ismael Molina Moreno by a margin of 39 points to 38 at the Eventim Olympia in Liverpool.

And it is understood that the return against the man from Birkenhead is next on Farrell’s radar.

“This fight was the last real chance for me to get out before me and ‘Masher’ get it on again in the summer,” said Farrell. “I was in against a tough kid there whose wins had all come by knockout.

“Obviously, not fighting in Switzerland was a big disappointment for me after I got an email to tell me that everything was good from my end but that he had pulled out with a hand injury. This was thrown on me last-minute and he was a bit of a banana skin, but I got through it and now I think it’s on to the rematch."

The current Coronavirus crisis may well put paid to any boxing happening after this coming weekend –– with the British Boxing Board of Control set to make an announcement regarding the uncertainty in due course –– but Farrell is hoping that the fight can happen sooner rather than later.

Dodd had his hand raised when the pair first met at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool back in November after the fight went to the scorecards after a clash of heads.

He watched Farrell’s win against Moreno and is himself set to prepare for the fight against the No Limits-trained man later this month when he fights at the Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park in Huyton, as part of a card promoted by Steve Wood for VIP Boxing in association with Trinity Boxing Entertainment.

Dodd is among seven who will be hoping that the show in Huyton still goes ahead as he looks to secure his third straight win on a card which features Jake Barton, debutant Desire Adami, a return for Meshech Speare and action for Shawn Hughes, Joe Kavanagh and Lee Whelan.

Details regarding the future of boxing in general in relation to the Coronavirus outbreak will be revealed in due course.
