Tim Tszyu is set for what is believed to be his last local headliner ahead of his planned title run.

The second-generation boxer will face late replacement Stevie Spark on Wednesday evening at Newcastle (Australia) Entertainment Centre. Both boxers made weight for their scheduled 12-round junior middleweight clash, which airs live domestically on Main Event Pay-Per-View and ESPN+ in the United States.

Tszyu (18-0, 14KOs) checked in at a fit and trim 152.8 pounds, similar to his weight for a fifth-round knockout of former title challenger Dennis Hogan in this very venue just 14 weeks ago.

Spark (12-1, 11KOs) weighed a career-heaviest 153.6 pounds. The 24-year-old from Toowoomba normally campaigns at junior welterweight, having only recently moved up to welterweight for his last bout which was a decision win over former Tszyu victim Jack Brubaker.

Spark accepted the fight just last Wednesday, replacing Michael Zerafa who withdrew after a team decision to not travel from Melbourne for the event as coronavirus numbers continue to surge throughout Australia.

Tszyu is currently the number-one contender—though not the mandatory challenger—to the WBO junior middleweight title currently held by Argentina’s Brian Castaño (17-0-1, 12KOs). The belt will be at stake in Castaño’s upcoming July 17 undisputed championship clash with Houston’s Jermell Charlo (34-1, 18KOs), the division’s reigning lineal/WBC/WBA/IBF champ.

The intention among Team Tszyu is to challenge the winner in the near future, if not straight away.
