WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman (26-0, 22KOs) is going to continue his chase of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) until the pound-for-pound king officially retires.

Thurman had hoped to face Mayweather on September 12th. Instead, Mayweather announced last week that he was going to defend his WBC/WBA super welterweight belts against Andre Berto in the main event of a Showtime Pay-Per-View from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather says the upcoming fight will be the final bout of his Hall of Fame career. Most insiders expect him to fight again, and so does Thurman.

Should Mayweather get past Berto as many expect him to do, a fight centered around his 50th pro win would be a major pay-per-view event.

Thurman is going to continue applying the pressure until Mayweather officially announces his retirement from boxing.

"I'm going to keep talking about Floyd until the day he retires. When he retires, then that means I'll no longer ever have a shot of fighting him. But as long as he keeps stepping in the ring, and as long as I want to keep competing against some of the best fighters in the world, I'm going to keep talking about Floyd Mayweather," Thurman told BoxingScene.com.
