BoxingScene.com recently caught up with welterweight contender Ashley Theophane who faces Pablo Cano on the Floyd Mayweather versus Canelo Alvarez televised pay-per-view undercard.  I asked the 33-year-old for his opinion on a couple of upcoming high profile fights.

WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia faces Argentine power puncher Lucas Matthysse in the co-feature slot beneath Mayweather-Alvarez.  Theophane said that Garcia can be successful if he is able to withstand Matthysse's power.

"I think you have to look at the Peterson fight.  I think that the power may be too much for Garcia but if he can take his power you never know.  We saw that Devon Alexander beat him and so did Zab Judah so it is possible.  Styles make fights and we have to see what tactics Danny Garcia will bring," Theophane opined.

I also asked Theophane for his opinion on the December 7th clash between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander and former junior welterweight champion Amir Khan that isn't 100% official yet.  Theophane feels that Alexander will be too much for his countryman.

"You have to look at Devon.  He has fought the world's best.  I respect him as a boxer.  He has a great coach.  I think he is going to have too much for Khan.  Khan is a two time world champ and you have to respect his record but I just feel that Devon is on a great run and will win on points or maybe even get a stoppage," Theophane told BoxingScene.com.
