Super featherweight contender Tevin Farmer (20-4-1, 5 KOs) had been close to securing a fight with Edner Cherry for a ShoBox card in March, however, the Philadelphia native revealed to BoxingScene.com that the fight was rejected by Showtime.

Farmer is coming off an impressive knockout win over Daulis Prescott last August while Cherry himself was seen by some observers as unlucky to have dropped a decision to current IBF champion José Pedraza.  As such, the decision to not proceed with the bout may raise eyebrows among fans who gave a positive response to the potential match-up on social media outlets.

“The fight card has been called off.  I guess Showtime didn’t want to approve me because I have four losses,” Farmer divulged.

“I’m not sure what the next step is.  I’ll speak to Lou DiBella, I know he is trying hard to get me an opponent.  I just think it should be brought to the attention that people want to see me fight, I entertain.  It seems like there has been an excuse for guys not wanting to fight me.  It won’t stop me from pushing hard in training and I’ll prove any doubters wrong.

“I was just shocked they didn’t want this fight.  I accept the decision from Showtime, but I disagree with it.  No hard feelings, I guess it’s a business decision.”

Farmer is currently training in California, opting to prepare for his next encounter in sunnier climes than the usual brutal Philadelphian winter.

“I come to California often.  I wanted to get away and see something different.  I’m also enjoying the weather.  The sparring here is good, it gives you a different look from guys on the east coast.  I am leaving on Saturday but I’ll be back here next month, I’m hoping that I’ll still fight in March.  I want to stay active and not be off for too long.

“At one point I was frustrated but I have good people around me who keep me grounded.”

It is also understood that a fight with Yuandale Evans was also rejected for Farmer.  It remains to be seen who will be the opponent for his next fight as the 25-year-old attempts to continue the momentum gained from his last ring action.
