A new weight class awaits Ganigan Lopez and Armando Torres, with each hoping that a title fight awaits the winner.

The pair of veteran Mexican boxers made weight for their regional title fight which takes place Friday evening at Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City, Mexico.

Both combatants weighed in at 111.2 pounds, well within the 112-pound flyweight limit for their local headliner (Friday, Telemundo, 11:35pm ET)

Lopez and Torres arrived at this point by claiming victories in their most recent outings on the same Telemundo card this past July, also in this very venue. Lopez (36-9, 19KOs)—a former junior flyweight titlist—resurrected his career following a 10-round split decision over Saul ‘Baby’ Juarez, coming four months after a knockout loss to Puerto Rico’s Angel Acosta in what many believed would be the end of his days as a title contender.

A win on Friday could push the 37-year old Lopez towards a title fight in 2020, as he remains highly ranked by two sanctioning bodies.

Torres (24-18, 18KOs) is a little bit longer in the tooth, three months shy of his 39th birthday and lacking Lopez’s championship pedigree. Two separate cracks at an interim title resulted in knockout defeats and having previously considered retirement after having lost eight times in 10 fights before turning things around as of late.

A three fight win streak precedes Friday’s adventure, including an upset 2nd round knockout of Alejandro Villasenor on the undercard of Lopez’ aforementioned thriller with Juarez.
