Attracting the biggest names in the super bantamweight division to a fight with Guillermo Rigondeaux is not something that has been easy for those involved with the career of the undefeated Cuban southpaw.  Subsequent to his win over Nonito Donaire, various big names have been mentioned as possible rivals, Carl Frampton, Leo Santa Cruz and Scott Quigg, among others.  Caribe Promotions, based in Miami is currently Rigondeaux's sole promoter.  Its leader is currently planning out ‘El Chacal’s’ next move.

"We are looking at some options right now, maybe in Japan, that's an option with various fighters there," Boris Arencibia told BoxingScene with regards to Rigondeaux’s next fight.

"We're also waiting on the fight between Carl Frampton and Chris Avalos.  Frampton has expressed a desire to fight Rigondeaux, that could happen this year.  It's very difficult right now in the United States.  No fighter in the US in his division wants to fight him.  The champions in his division, in this case Leo Santa Cruz prefers to fight someone at 126lbs.  I hope Frampton beats Avalos because Avalos won't want to fight Rigondeaux."

Arencibia is impressed with Frampton and is of the belief that he could be the man to step up and face Rigondeaux in what would be a unification clash later this year.

"He's a good boxer, he's very technical, I see him beating Avalos clearly.  We have a lot of respect for him, he won his world title and showed he's a gladiator against Martínez.  So we hope he wins and we see him as being a realistic option to fight Rigondeaux.  We haven't had any discussions with his team but I have read what he publicly stated, that he wants to fight Rigondeaux in his next fight.  But so far we haven't had any contact.  Everyone should know that Guillermo Rigondeaux is ready to fight Frampton at any time."

While Arencibia sounded confident of a potential clash with The Belfast man, he was scathing with his condemnation of Leo Santa Cruz and the current state of boxing in the United States at this present time.

"Promoters in the US are damaging the sport by not putting their fighters in with the best,” he explained.

“It's down to the world governing bodies and the television networks to help out.  In the case of Leo Santa Cruz, he hasn't fought anybody to be a world champion, anyone that had the fights he had could be a world champion.  He won a title that Ábner Mares vacated.  He hasn't fought any great champions to have that belt.

"Rigondeaux is ready to fight anyone at any time.  Scott Quigg is also a good boxer with a lot of quality.  If we look at the division he is a recognized name and he is better than Leo Santa Cruz.  It's an option, it would be great to fight him and then Frampton.”

There were rumors last year that Rigondeaux could have once again entered into a co-promotional deal with one of the major promoters in world boxing, just as he had been while under the Top Rank banner.  Nevertheless, Arencibia who also promotes hard-hitting cruiserweight Yunier Dorticos (18-0, 17 KOs) feels it would be counter productive and may further affect Rigondeaux’s chances of securing big names.

“We don't want to be associated with any other promoters due to the experience that Rigondeaux has had.  He wants to fight with fighters from Top Rank or Golden Boy or any other promoter.  If he wants to fight in France, he can do that.  If he wants to fight in Ireland, he can do that, or Japan.  That's want our boxer wants in this case.”
