In an important middleweight match-up, Polish master Kamil Szeremeta (17-0, 3 KOs) got arguably the biggest win of his career by stopping Italian Alessandro Goddi (33-3-1, 16 KOs) in two rounds, claiming a vacant European (EBU) title in process.

WBC #11 Szeremeta, 28 and not known to be a smash hitter, suddenly struck with thunder in round two. He landed a perfect right cross over Goddi’s left hand, which sent the Italian down.

Goddi, 30, got up at the count of eight but found himself on the canvas again merely a minute later. As he got up for the second time, a white towel from his corner made the hard decision for him.

Italy is definitely a country for old men of boxing. Another overly aged Italian veteran Emiliano Marsili continued his unbeaten series with a technical decision over Mexican Victor Betancourt (22-2, 10 KOs) in seven rounds.

WBA #7 rated lightweight Marsili, aged 41, was cut after an accidental clash of heads in round one. The cut worsened as the bout progressed, and the action was finally stopped 2:47 into the seventh round. Marsili (now 36-0-1, 14 KOs) was well ahead at the time of stoppage: 70-62, 69-64, and 68-64. He is best known for stoppage wins over Derry Matthews in 2012 and hard-hitting Luca Giacon in 2013.

Former European super featherweight champion and world title challenger (lost on a split decision to Takahiro Aoh in 2011) Deivis Boschiero improved his record to 45-5-1, 21 KOs, after a six-round decision over Nicaraguan journeyman Edwin Tellez (12-37-5, 6 KOs).

Other results:

Carmine Tommasone (18-0, 5 KOs) UD 6 Milan Savic (4-26-2, 1 KO)

Andrea Di Luisa (19-4, 14 KOs) SD 6 Djordje Markovic (3-7-1, 1 KO)

Ivan Zucco (2-0, 2 KOs) TKO 4 Aleksandar Bojic (4-13-2, 2 KOs)

IN OTHER NEWS: Zhan Kosobutskiy (4-0, 4 KOs), one of the most prominent Kazakh amateur heavyweights of the last decade, continued his pro run under the radar at the Crazy Horse Club in Minsk, Belarus. 6’3’’ Kosobutskiy, 29, dropped grizzled Ukrainian veteran Maxim Pedyura (14-12-1, 12 KOs) three times in round one for the fight to be stopped at 1:50. Pedyura has lost his ninth straight. The bout took place on Thursday, Feb. 22.
