Liam Davies has hoovered up the English, British and European super bantamweight titles in quick fashion. The 27 year old from Donnington added the IBO’s version of the world title to his trophy cabinet and put himself in line for some major fights after destroying Mexican danger man, Erik Robles inside two rounds.

The last time Robles, 15-2 (9 KOs,) came to Britain, he outlasted Lee McGregor in a war but he had no answer for Davies aggression, accuracy and power.

Davies, 16-0 (8 KOs), got down to business straight away. Although he is big for a super bantamweight he is a hunter and he got straight onto the front foot, catching Robles with long straight punches. Robles calmly absorbed the shots and then came came back with a burst of his own. Rather than backing away, Davies held his ground.

They picked up exactly where they left off in the second round. Robles began to show more aggression but walked directly into a right uppercut which knocked him down. Davies instinctively followed it with a clean left hook. Robles somehow got up and after looking into his eyes referee, John Latham, allowed him to continue. Davies coldly went for the finish, trapped Robles on the ropes and landed a clean right hand and left hook.

The official time was 1:17 of the second round.

“It’s a blessing. I had my debut in Birmingham and i just won the first of many world titles in Birmingham,” Davies said after the fight.

“Respect to Erik Robles. I beat a proper champion there. He’s been out sparring Inoue and he; beaten some good fighters on his way. This is the start of a massive 2024.”

“That was a world class finish and world class performance,” Davies’ promoter, Frank Warren said. “Think of the fight he [Robles] had with Lee McGregor who everyone was raving about. He done a job tonight. I can’t tell you how exciting it was. That was a brilliant performance.”
