Despite current WBC super welterweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez's yearning desire to fight either five time World Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. or the Middleweight Champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, the President of the WBC, Jose Sulaiman, has stated that Saul’s next fight has to be against Erislandy Lara or Vanes Martirosyan. This will depend who wins the final eliminator between those two great super welterweight fighters. Lara and Vanes collide on Saturday night in an HBO televised main event at the Wynn in Las Vegas.

“Saul is a boxer who is in the major leagues. He is an idol who has pursued his career the right way, even facing and defeating Shane Mosley. He is a disciplined, dedicated and committed boxer. It is a fact that he has the maturity to face the best pound for pound, Floyd Mayweather Jr. or even Sergio Martinez," Sulaiman said.

"But Saul is committed to a mandatory fight with either Vanes Martirosyan or Erislandy Lara, who will be fighting Saturday for the chance to challenge the world champion. After that "Canelo" can choose who will be his next opponent. So Saul’s plans will have to wait, until he has fulfilled his commitment of this mandatory fight."
