Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. - In a junior welterweight rematch, Subriel Matias (18-1, 18 KOs) got revenge by dropping and stopping Petros Ananyan (16-3-2, 7 KOs) in nine rounds.

It was a huge measure of redemption for the dangerous puncher Matias.

Back in 2020, Ananyan dropped and outboxed Matias over ten rounds for a unanimous decision.

It took Matias several fights to rebuild his career and secure the opportunity to face Ananyan again.

After absorbing a lot of punishment in the fight, Ananyan finally went down at the end of the ninth round. While he beat the count, the ringside doctor felt Ananyan was in no condition to continue.

Now Matias moves ahead in his quest to secure a world title shot.

"Two years ago Ananyan knocked me off my path to the world title. I've been waiting for the fight ever since then. This is what I trained to do," Matias said.

"My goal was to get him out of there. I had to prove in this fight that I was the better man. I'm thankful for the opportunity to face a warrior like Ananyan. If you don't take him seriously, he'll beat you.

“First of all, I want to thank God for this fight. This is the fight that I always wanted. Ever since my defeat to him, I wanted to avenge the loss. When you’re sure about yourself and you know that you have the skills that you have, you take the rematch.

“I’m not just a hard-hitter but the way that I fight is like cutting down a tree. Just keep hitting them. I think I can improve my power but let’s see what happens with time.

“I’m going to take my time. I want to thank everybody who made this fight possible but I’m going to take my time before deciding who I will fight next.”
