The EBU have announced that Stefan Haertel´s defence of the EBU super middleweight crown against mandatory challenger Juergen Braehmer will go ahead October 26 in Rostock. This is probably the hottest all-German matchup of the year. It´s promoted by JB (as in Juergen Braehmer) Sport Promotion.

JB have not officially announced the date nor site yet.

Spanish super lightweight Sandor Martin (35-2) won the vacant EBU title Saturday night in Barcelona with a ninth round stoppage of Italian Andrea Scarpa (24-6).

Martin previously fought for the same title back in 2016 against Anthony Yigit and lost a close decision. Martin was at the time also signed up with the now defunct Real Deal Promotions but the US debut never materialized.

EBU bantam champ George Ory (11-2-1) defends the title against former titleholder Karim Guerfi (28-4) Nov 15 in Pessac. This all French matchup is promoted by EuroProm.  Ory won the title with an upset win over Josh Wale and this is his second defence.

Guerfi held the very same title last year but relinquised it to fight for the IBO title but was knocked out by Michael Dasmarinas. He has since won two straight.

Argentinian Hugo Santillan fought in Hamburg, (Germany) June 15 and lost a unanimous decision against Artem Harutynyan. It was a tough fight and the supervising body, the BDB (Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer) handed out a 45 day suspension for Santillan. O

n July 20 Santillan was back in the ring back home in Argentina and drew with Eduard Javier Abreu but later passed away due to injuries received in that fight - or in the fight before.

However, as there is no world ruling body in professional boxing and a suspension from a German Federation is in fact not even legally binding within Germany (as there are one or more federations active).

According to Eric Armit´s excellent Snips & Snipes column Santillan had accepted the fight on very short notice and despite the loss in his last fight and the suspension from the BDB he was accepted to fight for the WBC Latin Silver lightweight title and lost his life.
