LAS VEGAS – Errol Spence Jr. never broke stride Saturday night, but he provided pause for thought.

While leaving the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs middleweight title fight at T-Mobile Arena, Spence was asked about eventually moving up to fight Alvarez. Spence, the IBF welterweight champion, didn’t flat out reject the prospect of jumping up two weight classes to battle the Mexican icon.

“We’ll see,” Spence told FightHub TV for its YouTube channel. “It could happen.”

The 29-year-old Spence stands about two inches taller than the 5-feet-8 Alvarez. But Alvarez (51-1-2, 35 KOs), the IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight champ, has fought as high as the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds, three divisions above where Spence competes.

Spence (25-0, 21 KOs), of DeSoto, Texas, is more likely to move up from 147 pounds to 154 once he decides it’s too taxing physically to continue competing at welterweight. As far as what’s next, Spence replied, “probably Porter.”

Shawn Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs), the WBC welterweight champ, and Spence are expected to meet either late in the summer or early in the fall. The victor of their 147-pound title unification match more than likely will box the winner between WBA welterweight champ Keith Thurman (29-0, 22 KOs, 1 NC) and Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) in his following fight.

Meanwhile, Spence walked away from his ringside seat at the Alvarez-Jacobs bout believing Brooklyn’s Jacobs did enough to win. All three judges officially disagreed with Spence’s assessment of what occurred during their 12-round fight for three middleweight championships.

Glenn Feldman (116-112), Dave Moretti (115-113) and Steve Weisfeld (115-113) scored their 160-pound title unification fight for Alvarez. Spence suggested it’s Jacobs who deserved a unanimous decision.

“It was a good fight, man,” Spence said. “I thought Danny pulled it out in the later rounds. In the later rounds, I thought Danny pulled it out. He was working.”
