Utterly fed-up with his attitude and lack of discipline well-known international promoter and matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz and Filipino partner Sammy Gello-ani believe that “enough is enough” and have removed the “Marvelous” tag to the name of Marvin Sonsona  because he is “ruining his pro boxing career due to his attitude and lack of discipline.”

Sonsona failed to take a flight from his hometown of General Santos City on October 13, which was heading to Las Vegas with former light flyweight champion Johnreil Casimero, Manny Pacquiao’s cousin Edrin Dapudong and trainer Jhun Agrabio. He was scheduled to start camp for a scheduled December 18 non-title fight where his purse was $50,000, but instead he decided to hangout with his friends in his hometown, forced his promoters and powerful adviser Al Haymon to give up hope that Sonsona will change and realize the number of opportunities he has lost to regain his place in the boxing world.

As a result they have decided “to freeze their promotional contract with Sonsona in the USA“ and warned that the former world super flyweight champion “cannot fight under any other promotional outfit and they will sue anyone who will interfere and be involved in his boxing career anywhere in the world.”

Sonsona’s promoters and Al Haymon feel they have “done so much for Sonsona and have tried to patiently guide him” all to no avail.

On July 10, Sonsona was supposed to return to the training camp in Las Vegas to prepare for a WBC world title fight against Gary Russell Jr. scheduled for September 22 but Sonsona requested that the trip be postponed so he could  celebrate his 25th birthday on July 25 and promised to fly a few days after but he did not leave for Las Vegas forcing Lewkowicz to cancel the fight where Sonsona was to earn a purse of $100,000.

In a gesture of remarkable goodwill and in order for Sonsona to have clear mind with no problems that would disrupt his training, Lewkowicz paid for Marvin’s urgent kidney operation at the National Kidney Institute and spent more than P500,000 without deducting the money from his June 2015 fight purse.
