All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams is inching closer to confirming a boxing match with Cronulla Sharks NRL captain Paul Gallen, according to a report out of Australia today.

The Sydney Morning Herald report Williams' agent and promoter Khoder Nasser has settled on terms with Gallen's management. The only details apparently left to be ironed out surround where the fight will be broadcast in Australia.

Nasser has over the last 15-years been dealing with Main Event, a division of Australian pay television company Foxtel, but is canvassing all options in a bid to secure the best deal.

The Sydney Morning Herald report Nasser has arranged a meeting with Mike Sneesby, the chief executive of Australian streaming service Stan.

For too long Main Event has been able to dominate because they are a monopoly," Nasser told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"My aim is to get the best possible deal for the athletes and I'd be excited to do that with Stan."

The report indicates the fight could be built up and promoted through summer in an indication the bout could be held prior to the start of next year's Super Rugby and NRL seasons.

Gallen was in Auckland late last week before leading his Sharks side to a dominant 26-12 win over the Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium on Friday night.
