Pavel Silyagin took advantage of his ESPN exposure Saturday night by producing the most impressive win of his brief pro career.

The Russian super middleweight prospect out-boxed previously unbeaten Uzbekistan native Azizbek Abdugofurov and won a 12-round unanimous decision in Moscow. Silyagin switched seamlessly from orthodox to southpaw stances, effectively used his jab throughout their fight and defended himself well to win on all three scorecards.

Silyagin easily won by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 119-109 to remain undefeated. The 27-year-old Silyagin improved to 7-0 (4 KOs).

The 29-year-old Abdugofurov lost for the first time as a pro (13-1, 5 KOs).

ESPN televised this battle between unbeaten super middleweight prospects as part of the Artur Beterbiev-Adam Deines undercard from Megasport Sport Palace.

CompuBox credited Silyagin for landing 69 more punches overall than Abdugofurov (188-of-703 to 119-of-485).

Silyagin’s right hand backed up Abdugofurov with 1:07 remaining in the 12th round. Well ahead on points, Silyagin still pressed the action for much of the final round and finished strong.

Abdugofurov kept pressing the action in the 11th round, but he had a hard time landing clean shots on Silyagin. The elusive Silyagin boxed well off his back foot and again was busier than Abdugofurov.

Abdugofurov aggressively went after Silyagin for most of the 10th round. Silyagin adeptly avoided a lot of Abdugofurov’s power shots in that round and pot-shotted his opponent with jabs and occasional power punches.

Silyagin backed Abdugofurov into the ropes and landed several power punches in the final 30 seconds of the ninth round.

Abdugofurov landed a left hook with about 1:10 to go in the eighth round. Abdugofurov also nailed Silyagin with a right hand with 50 seconds left in that eighth round.

Abdugofurov started to mount a comeback in the seventh round, when he landed more than twice as many power punches as Silyagin.

Silyagin blooded Abdugofurov’s nose in the sixth round. He drilled Abdugofurov with a right hand with about 1:20 to go in the sixth.

Silyagin’s right uppercut caught Abdugofurov with about 40 seconds left in the fifth round. Silyagin again was the more accurate, busy fighter in that fifth round, and made Abdugofurov miss with most of his punches.

A left-right-left combination by Silyagin snapped back Abdugofurov’s head with just over a minute remaining in the fourth round. Abdugofurov’s right hand backed Silyagin into the ropes a little less than 30 seconds into the fourth round.

A jarring jab by Silyagin stopped Abdugofurov in his tracks with just over 40 seconds left in the third round. Silyagin continued to work off his jab throughout that third round.

Silyagin caught Abdugofurov with a right hand that landed with just under 1:20 to go in the second round. Abdugofurov’s left hand caused Silyagin to reset his feet with 40 seconds remaining in that second round.

Silyagin pumped his jab for most of the first round, but his right hand knocked Abdugofurov off balance with just under 20 seconds to go in it.
