Beibut Shumenov wants to unify at least two of the so-called world light-heavyweight titles.

But to do so, the man from Kazakhstan has to retain his WBA title when he fights Enrique Ornelas, a Mexican, in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

It will be the fourth defence for Shumenov, who took the belt in 2010 when he beat Spanish southpaw Gabriel Campillo on a split decision. It was a rematch after Campillo had won their first meeting, in 2009, by majority decision.

"I'm looking forward to defending my title," Shumenov said. "My goal has always been, and it remains, to fight the best and unify the light-heavyweight titles."

"Some day, I hope one of the other champions will put his belt on the line against mine. Until then, I am focused on retaining my title against the toughest possible challengers, such as Ornelas."

Shumenov, 28 years old, has won eight of his 13 professional fights by knockout, losing only once. In his most recent fight, in July last year, he stopped American Danny Santiago in the ninth round.

Ornelas, 31, improved to 33-7 with 21 knockouts by winning three times last year. In his most recent outing he stopped countryman Heriberto Gutierrez in the first round.

The champion, who fought at the 2008 Olympic Games, was hoping to fight Canada's Jean Pascal or Britain's unbeaten Nathan Cleverly.

But both wanted home-town bouts, says Shumenov’s promoter, Don Chargin. "If things go right on Saturday night, we'll try again to make a unification fight," Chargin said.

It could mean a fight against unbeaten IBF champion Tavoris Cloud or another American, Chad Dawson, who has lost only once.

Cloud, unbeaten after 24 fights and with 19 knockouts, will defend his title against Pascal in Montreal on August 11. Dawson, who stands at 31-1 with 17 knockouts, meets unbeaten American super-middleweight Andre Ward in September.
