Polish heavyweight contender Artur Spzilka (20-1, 15KOs) says that he trained for the fight of his life. Later tonight, Szpilka will challenge heavy favorite Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34Kos) for the WBC heavyweight title at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Very few experts are giving Szpilka a chance to win, but the fighter's trainer, veteran coach Ronnie Shields, is confident in his fighter’s chances to pull off a major upset.

“We are in great shape and ready to go,” Shields told BoxingScene.com. “He can’t wait until Saturday night.”

Shields didn’t feel like a title shot would come for Spzilka this early, but says his team will take full advantage of a golden opportunity. Szpilka came into the picture after Wilder's original opponent, Czar Glazkov, withdrew from negotiations to face Charles Martin for the vacant IBF title.

“I didn’t think we were getting the shot but I am glad we are getting it and more important - we’re going to take advantage of it,” said the trainer. “We just have to be smart. We can’t just go in crazy and think one shots going to end it. So we have to pick out spots and be smart.”

Much was made about the scuffle that happened between the two fighters at the Freedom Tower in The World Trade Center. But Shields says it won’t have any effect on his fighter come tonight.

“Not at all, it’s definitely not going to be a factor,” Shields stated.  “What happened happened, now you got to move forward. He has moved forward and now it’s time to take the title on Saturday.

Shields feels that Wilder has a good chin but it will be vital for Spzilka to take Wilder’s confidence away early on.

“I think Deontay can take a good shot, we just got to know how to hit him in the right spot and take his confidence away.”
