As exultant as promoter Gary Shaw was in victory after Chad Dawson took the light heavyweight championship from Bernard Hopkins on Saturday, he still made sure to direct some ire at the judge who had scored the bout a 114-114 draw, Luis Rivera. The other two official judges scored it 117-111 for Dawson.

“To Luis Rivera, the judge that had it even, you’ll never do one of my fights again if I can help it,” Shaw said in the aftermath.

“One of the things that hurts our sport — people have eyes, and they can see, whether you’re a fan of one fighter or the other, you want a fair fight. You want the person who won it in the ring to win it. I always say if you lose a fight, we want to lose it in the ring. We don’t want to lose it on a bad scorecard. He came close. I’m glad that they read his score first. In the end, it was good.”
