A southpaw affiliated with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions has agreed to fight Shakur Stevenson for the second time in barely a week.

BoxingScene.com has confirmed that representatives for Edwin De Los Santos and Stevenson have reached a financial agreement for them to fight for the WBC lightweight title November 16 in Las Vegas. ESPN will televise Stevenson-De Los Santos as a main event on a Thursday night, probably from T-Mobile Arena.

Assuming paperwork is completed in time, an announcement could be made by the end of the week.

Stevenson suggested that a deal was nearly finalized on social media Tuesday night. ESPN.com’s Mike Coppinger first reported Wednesday afternoon that both sides accepted terms for their 12-round, 135-pound championship match.

BoxingScene.com’s Jake Donovan initially reported Saturday that negotiations between teams for Stevenson and De Los Santos had begun because Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs) turned down the opportunity to face Stevenson next.

Stevenson, 25, and will face De Los Santos, 23, because Martin withdrew from their fight late last week. Their handlers reached an agreement September 5, a couple hours before the WBC’s purse bid for their fight was scheduled to take place.

The left-handed Stevenson has since stated that Martin ultimately declined to fight him because he wanted a 50-50 purse split.

Stevenson (20-0, 10 KOs) and De Los Santos (16-1, 14 KOs) will fight for the WBC lightweight title because the Mexico City-based sanctioning organization has named Devin Haney its 135-pound champion in recess. Haney (30-0, 15 KOs) is expected to move up to the 140-pound division for his next fight, a shot at WBC super lightweight champ Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs).

Whereas Stevenson has established himself as one of the top 10 boxers, pound-for-pound, in the sport, De Los Santos will take a step up in opposition against a two-weight world champion. The Dominican southpaw has, however, recorded back-to-back impressive victories.

De Los Santos got up from a second-round knockdown to upset lightweight prospect Jose Valenzuela by third-round knockout last September 4 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Valenzuela (12-2, 8 KOs) was knocked down once apiece in the second and third rounds before referee Ray Corona halted the action while a vulnerable Valenzuela was still standing.

In his most recent action, De Los Santos soundly outboxed Joseph Adorno (17-3-2, 14 KOs) on his way to winning a 10-round unanimous decision July 8 at Boardwalk Hall’s Adrian Phillips Theater in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Newark, New Jersey, stopped Japanese contender Shuichiro Yoshino (16-1, 12 KOs) in the sixth round of his most recent action, April 8 at Prudential Center in Newark.
