Humo Arena, Tashkent - WBA #6 Shakhram Giyasov (11-0, 9 KOs), fighting in front of a highly supportive crowd, made a successful second defense of his WBA International light welterweight title by dismantling Mexican Patricio Lopez Moreno (28-5, 20 KOs) in three rounds.

Giyasov, who won a Silver medal as welterweight in the 2016 Rio Olympic along with the 2017 World Amateur Championship, was working aggressively in the first against a considerably taller opponent. He found room for several left hooks and landed some right hands as well. Moreno, 26, had some success with hooks of his own but this progression was too inconsistent. The Mexican fighter was cut at the top of his forehead. He was also put down once, but that was ruled a push to the back of the head by referee Andriy Baliasov.

Moreno was enjoying a good round two. He was moving well, circling it to the left and out of harm's way. His southpaw stance gave Giyasov something to think about. Moreno was also landing right uppercuts to keep the Uzbek at bay, showing areas of further improvement by the rising star. It was all moving his way up until the last seconds of the round when The Wonder Boy put up another wonder out of the box and put Moreno down momentarily.

The Mexican was a different fighter in the third. He struggled to cope with Giyasov's speed and power, and ate too many body blows. Moreno's face expression was just wrong while the Uzbek was on a roll. Finally, Giyasov pinned Moreno to the ropes and unleashed a right hand followed by a left hook and a right hook to the body, which put the Mexican down. Andriy Baliasov counted him out at 2:21 of the third round.
