Aguas Buenas, PR- In an intense bell-to-bell battle held at the Coliseum Samuel 'Sammy' Rodríguez de Aguas Buenas, World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Cindy 'Checkmate' Serrano (26-5-3 , 10KO's), managed to win a unanimous decision victory over Mexican challenger Paola 'La Fiera' Torres (10-2-1, 3KO's), defending for the first time his crown.

Serrano, who used all of her boxing skills, had to deal with the aggressive push of Torres, who never stopped pressing.

"It was a strong fight, but I was able to make the adjustments to impose my boxing and win the fight," said Serrano, who climbed the ring in a commemorative outfit to Roberto Clemente. "I am happy with the work that was done, and now we will continue training to return to defend my crown once again in the near future, my greatest desire is to continue representing the WBO and my island, Puerto Rico."

Meanwhile, Torres was frustrated by the decision, commenting that:
