WBO light middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk is preparing to his first bout in the United States against Uzbek Sherzod Husanov (14-0-1, 7 KOs) on May 14. After a long time away from ring, the Ukrainian wants to get back in his best shape and then wants to face some of boxing's bigger names.

“It’s not wise to rush under tanks at once”, - told Dzinziruk to Novaya Gazeta. – “The most important thing for me now is to beat Husanov spectacularly, and after that I can face more famous opponents. Though I don’t want to think ahead. Husanov isn’t some journeyman. We have similar achievements in the amateur boxing ring – we both have silver medals on a world championship level. To defend my title I’ll have to give everything I’ve got”.

Dzinziruk has the same promoter (Gary Shaw) as the interim WBO champion of his division Alfredo Angulo. There were rumors about the possible fight between the two champions.

“If I am to fight Angulo, I’ll have to knock him out to win”, - says Dzinziruk. – “By the way, last weekend I was present at Alfredo’s fight. I sat in the front row and even stepped into the ring to say a couple of words before the bout. This fight was especially interesting to me as Angulo faced my last opponent Joel Julio. Alfredo is a tough guy – he won with the knockout. But I’m not afraid of Angulo”
