Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (30-4, 26KOs) has already received the green light from the doctors who successfully treated him for a detached retina in his left eye and he will resume training this week with a the goal of making a return fight before Christmas.

Thompson said the retinal detachment happened three weeks before his last fight in December of last year in Playa del Carmen, when he was stopped in the ninth of his battle for the WBA interim-super featherweight WBA crown with Brian "Tiquito" Vasquez.

He claims he was unable to cancel the fight with Vasquez, laying the blame on the promotional circumstances which prevented the card from being postponed.

As for his future, he said he plans to train in Mexico City with Hall of Fame coach Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain and perhaps the idea is to fight eight rounds in December.

He says his relationship with promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing is excellent and he's had several discussions with the promoter to make the best paths for both.
