According to promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing, Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson will return to action on a date in December, in the United States, and potentially in a super featherweight eliminatory for a World Boxing Council (WBC) title shot. In 2014, Thompson had back to back wins over Canelo's brother Ricardo Alvarez and Filipino Adones Aguelo. Thompson is inching closer to get a world title opportunity against WBC champion Takashi Miura, who defends his title on November 22 Edgar Puerta in Tokyo.

For now Thompson continues to train in California, with his coach Clemente Medina, and hopes to close out the year in style. Thompson has a record of 30-3, with 26 wins before the limit.
